This week Bob asks, “What are Elders supposed to be like?”
To further educate the congregation and to pick up on last week’s theme, Warrenton Church of Christ Minister, Bob Kolodner goes into detail about the characteristics of a Church of Christ Elder and what he should ideally be like.
In last week’s sermon, Bob talked about the things that Elders are supposed to do. This sermon was designed to help us recognize the traits to look for in an Elder as we approach the Elder selection process this summer. This week, we learn more about what our Elders should be like – according to the scripture of Paul in Titus, 1 Timothy and from the Gospel according to Matthew.
1 Timothy 3
1. Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. 2 Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate,self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect.
