Our Newest Shepherd – Eddie Perez

wcoc-member-photos-107-perezBrothers and Sisters, we are honored and delighted to introduce our newest shepherd, Brother Eddie Perez.

After months of prayer, deliberation and painstaking interviews, we are proud to introduce our newest shepherd, our dear brother Eddie Perez.  Eddie has agreed to serve as Elder to our family, and it is a privilage to make this announcement and to welcome Eddie as an integral part of our church leadership.

Seen here with his wife Shelly, they have already given many years of service to this church family and have been a spiritual support and inspiration to many of the members with their strong faith and heart-warming sincerity.

The weight of this role is not lost on any member of this church.  We therefore thank you for making this solemn commitment to serve our family in this way and to join our Elders in this awesome, challenging and deeply selfless task.

We shall be keeping Eddie and Shelly in our prayers as they adapt to Eddie’s new and important role in this church.  God bless you both.

Mats for Homeless – Wednesday 28th September

screenshot-2016-09-25-20-11-29This Wednesday at 7:00 PM – be in the Fellowship hall to learn how to make mats for the homeless – out of used grocery bags.

Yes that’s right; that mat Bob is holding is actually made from dozens of cleverly woven used grocery bags.  No kidding.

So go to that drawer you have in the kitchen that is positively bursting with used grocery bags, and gather them up, along with your scissors, cutting wheels or whatever you’ve got and come on down. You’ll have fun learning how to make a mat that will protect a homeless person from the the harsh, cold ground this winter.  As Bob says, we may not be able to do everything for the homeless, but we can do something – and this is certainly something.

See you there Brothers and Sisters.

Sermon: Why Not Me?

2016-09-25-spiritual-gifts-001In this week’s message, Bob continues his journey through the book of Corinthians and explores the purpose of the different gifts that God has given each of us.  They may not be the gifts we want, but they are the gifts God needs us to have at this time, for sone reason.  All we need to do is find ways to serve with the gifts we have.

In Corinthians 1, chapter 12 we find that Paul has much wisdom to share with the members of the church at corinth.  We have copied chapter 12 here in it’s entireity for your convenience.  Bob recommends we all read this scripture.

Concerning Spiritual Gifts

12 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

Class Update – Sept. 11, 2016

sunday-school-2016-016As we go forward, it is our hope and prayer that your children will be able to share in front of the congregation at the end of this quarter what they have learned in class. Therefore, we are asking you, the parent, to help in that endeavor.

You ask: What can I do to help?

Tack this on the refrigerator and when you think about it, help us reinforce the following during this coming week.

September 11th, 2016 Sermon – It’s complicated

9-11-patriot-runners-in-warrenton-9-11-2016On a day that felt very different to most other Sunday’s, Bob’s sermon this week captured so many moving, sad and joyful moments that have occured during this week of remembrance.  Fifteen years ago today we promised we will never forget – and how true this has been.

On the way home from Church today, I saw three men running through Warrenton town center carrying flags.  I hope to find out who they are; other than being wonderful patriots.  I want to thank them for reminding us what 9-11 means to every American.

God bless America.

1 Corinthians – Part V

Screenshot 2016-09-04 13.14.39 SmallIn this week’s powerful message, Bob delivers some hard truths concerning sexual immorality as set out in 1 Corinthians, chapter 6.

Continuing with his sermon series about the dysfunctional church of Corinth, Bob teaches us how Paul addresses complaints about adultery and incest among members of the church at Corinth.  Bob then turns his attention to similar issues that exist within our own society today; not just in society at large, but things that still occur within the Christian community 2000 years after Paul insisted that we “Flee from sexual immorality” 1 Cor. 6:18.

1 Cor. 6:12 – 14:

12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.
